In November 1964, Heinz Dostmann founded the "Technische Fabrik für Armaturen" (Technical Plant for Controls and Instruments), abbreviated as TFA, in the German town of Kreuzwertheim. During this period, the region saw an influx of young glass-processing companies attracted to Glaswerk Wertheim, which had been founded by Thuringian glass work specialists in 1950.

In 1966, the company first building was constructed on the current site at “Zum Ottersberg” in Reicholzheim. Several building extensions increased the production area to 2,300 m2 by 1975. By that time, over 30 people were employed by the company, which was now operating under the name of TFA Dostmann GmbH & Co. KG.

In 1979, sales reached over DM 10 million, which made it necessary to build a further extension. Machines were purchased to enable streamlined production. In 1985, the company had 100 employees.

The construction of a high-bay warehouse and and a fully automated calibration facility followed. The company own electronic production was later spun off as Dostmann electronic. TFA Hongkong was founded. In 1993, Axel Dostmann became the company new managing director.

New product ideas and designs stand at the forefront of the company policy. The manufacturing of electronic instruments is now carried out in East Asia, while a company branch in Shanghai oversees quality assurance on location.

 
In 2007, the company site underwent further expansion. The storage capacity was enlarged to include an extra storey for new office rooms. Meanwhile, TFA now operates in an area of ​​more than 11,000 m2.
